E-JURNAL A Review of Life Cycle Models by Plog & Butler from a Marketing Perspective
This chapter reviews Plog’s and Butler’s life cycle models by looking into Levitt’s product life cycle from a marketing perspective. Similar to the original product life cycle model in
providing accurate descriptions of products’ popularity over time, both Plog’s and Butler’s models provide valid identifiers of tourist composition changes in destinations. In fact, a destination can be viewed as a tourism product with various stages in its life cycle in appealing to different types of tourists. Tourism industry practitioners should take pre-emptive measures to manage and maintain a destination to prolong its lifespan.
